Driving innovation as the industry’s trailblazer

“I envision a future where women foster collaboration and mentorship, create ecosystems that encourage innovation and creativity. Women’s inherent support for sustainability and social responsibility also influences company strategies and long-term planning. By leveraging these qualities, women leaders can drive industry transformation while promoting inclusivity and sustainable growth.”

Aida Hanani Ayub
Managing Director,
Eureka Efektif

I’m the Managing Director of Eureka Efektif which I co-founded in 2008. We were instrumental in driving innovation, particularly through the development of Eureka’s polyurethane manufacturing capabilities.

The company’s first product, pipeline cleaning pigs, was fully designed and produced in-house in 2015.

This pioneering achievement established Eureka as one of the first Malaysian companies to manufacture such products, earning us pioneer status from MIDA.

Today, Eureka is the market leader in pipeline cleaning solutions in Malaysia, with ambitions to expand its polyurethane offerings further.

Digital transformation has also been a cornerstone of our growth. We implemented SAP for improved data management, migrated document systems to Microsoft SharePoint and cloud platforms, and introduced software for HR management. Plans to automate manufacturing processes are in progress, reflecting Eureka’s forward-thinking approach to operational efficiency.

I attribute meticulous planning, technical expertise, and an ability to adapt to dynamic industry demands to the growth of Eureka under my guidance.

My vision is to continue to shape Eureka’s position as a trailblazer in the energy sector.

Confluence of Collaboration and Creativity

Female leaders play a critical role in shaping the future of the global energy sector. Qualities like empathy, independence, and the ability to nurture and coach talent are distinct strengths women bring to leadership roles.

I envision a future where women foster collaboration and mentorship, create ecosystems that encourage innovation and creativity. Women’s inherent support for sustainability and social responsibility also influences company strategies and long-term planning. By leveraging these qualities, women leaders can drive industry transformation while promoting inclusivity and sustainable growth.

Significant Power Shift in Female Leadership

There are two major challenges in leadership: managing people and navigating external forces. Leading diverse groups of stakeholders—including clients, suppliers, and employees—requires clear communication, empathy, and an understanding of organisational dynamics. Emphasis should be given to listening instead of talking. We also need to adapt leadership styles to meet individual needs.

It is important to be prepared for rainy days too. External challenges such as economic downturns, regulatory shifts, and unprecedented crises (e.g., the COVID-19 pandemic) also test resilience. Through prudent financial planning, cost optimisation, and strategic foresight, Eureka managed to survive through economic downturns without retrenchments or pay cuts.

Collectively, us leaders should advocate for inclusive opportunities and collaboration in order to provide a level playing field for women in the energy sector.

Exploring the Emerging Opportunities for Women in Energy

Renewable energy, decarbonisation, and big data are the pivotal trends in shaping the future of energy. The shift towards sustainability presents new opportunities for innovation, while advancements in digitalisation and data analytics open doors for enhanced efficiency.

I firmly believe that women are uniquely positioned to lead these efforts due to our attention to detail, collaborative mindset, and focus on long-term impact. By reskilling, upskilling, and staying attuned to market demands, women can capitalise on these trends to establish ourselves as pioneers in emerging fields.

A Personal Mission: Driving Innovation Through Ownership

Ownership is important in driving innovation. My philosophy is grounded in research and development, collaboration with technology partners, and leveraging grants from agencies such as SME Corp., MATRADE, and TERAJU.

Through these efforts, Eureka has secured 80% of Malaysia’s pipeline pigging market, offering products that rival European and American manufacturers in quality.

By owning the production process, we are also able to control sustainability, profitability, and a competitive edge. I encourage all women out there to adopt this approach, so you can make the shift from being just participants to being leaders in the industry’s transformation.

Looking Ahead

My journey is largely attributed to the power of perseverance, innovation, and strategic leadership. From navigating market complexities to fostering inclusivity, I hope my experiences will offer valuable lessons to future leaders in the energy sector.
